So Now Only Whine ?

Posted on January 7th, 2010 in Travel by SirSimplySaw

Winter and snow used to give me the impression of a very romantic and cool season to live in but somehow I think I am very wrong for making assumptions. It reinforce my believe on not to assume on anything, NEVER. Last year winter when I was based in Manchester there was little snow , I bet I could find more snow@shredded ice at the Ice Kacang/Cendul stall along Penang Road in a year compare to a year in Manchester during last winter, thats how sacred snow is in Manchester last year.

This year things are a little bit different, I know we are all facing global warming everywhere but somehow it is making UK colder. UK might be experiencing the coldest winter ever in 100 years, it was snowing in London like a week before Christmas and normally it doesnt snow during December. Snowing is more like a late January and February thingy.

Dont get me wrong , the scenery of a natural white carpet covering the whole Earth does fascinate me but at what price ? Unlike Russia or Switzerland , UK is not particularly a snowy place. Maybe in the 60s or 70s snowing is quite a norm but it is no longer the case lately. There are winters that passes by without a single drop of snow in London so we cant really blame anyone when we are not that well prepare for a long and cold period with heavy snow and icy surface.

Well I am sure it is fun to have holidays in snowy and cold places but having to go through those difficult condition in order to go through your daily routine seems like quite a heavy price to pay for a beautiful scenery. Basically snow are dangerous and icy surface are VERY dangerous. Basically your life will somehow got affected if you wake up looking at inches of snow or worst a couple feet of snow in front of your house and then to make things worst you know that your local authority are not really prepare for it even after paying all those taxes.

As time passes those snow starts to melt while the surroundings area remain cold so indirectly it causes the snow to be icy. When roads are icy it will cause car to skid when car skid it might call accident when accident happens it causes more problem for everyone. Not only that, people might slip when walking on icy surfaces and thats not so nice because people might get hurt real bad from it.

Alot of things might come to stand still , business might get affected, people might face black out , travelling become difficult, flights got cancel, people got stuck, got strike by snowball from unknown places and yadaa yadaa yadaa. There worst thing they have to postpone the football matches due to the snow. In short, shit happens when it snow heavily when you least expected it so if you think snow is cool and romantic , give it another thought.

And Happy New Year 2010 to all you people out there, may you have a blessed and exciting year ahead of you.

Drive of Life

Posted on December 22nd, 2009 in Travel by SirSimplySaw

Today 23rd December 2010 (it should be 23rd Dec 2009, thanks Boss Banana for pointing that out ) mark a very very special day to me, is not because it is the eve of the Christmas Eve. Well today marks my 1 year anniversary of not driving a vehicle, can you imagine it one whole year ME not driving. Driving was really like big part of me, I think I definately drove more frequent than I sending text to a girl, partly because I am a sad and lonely young man without much life. Ahha, who cares. Anyway honestly I do enjoy driving very much when the traffic is light and when the atmosphere is nice but the high price of petrol do take some part of fun away from driving.

Before I start my lame story let me just briefly explain to you how the insurance for car works over here in UK. Unlike in Malaysia when a car is insured anyone with a proper driving license can drive it, if you have one car in your household, you dad can drive it, your mum can it, your grandma can drive, your sis can drive it, your aunty can drive and even your house dog can drive it provided it can drive and has a valid driving license.

Here is a little bit different, lets say if your household own a car lets call it Civic, if you dad wanted to drive Civic he must have insurance to drive Civic if your mum want to drive Civic then she must have ANOTHER insurance to drive Civic. If your household has 2 cars namely Civic and Altis, if your dad wanted to drive both Civic and Altis he must have one insurance to cover him while driving Civic and another insurance to cover him while driving Altis so he must have 2 insurance policy in order to drive both cars. So in short the insurance here indirectly cover the driver instead of the car.

How much you are paying for your insurance policy depends on 3 main criteria :-
1.) where you stay
2.) your driving experience and age
3.) your car type

Insurance policy can be very expensive if you are younger than age of 25 , if the area you are staying in consider high risk in crime rate and if you are driving brand new expensive car. Sometimes the insurance policy can cost you as much as £ 2000 per annum even though the market value of your car is just £ 1000 simply because you are consider high risk driver/owner. Thats why there are plenty of drivers out there in UK especially those immigrants are driving without proper insurance cover.

So why didnt I drive for one whole year ? Basically this day last year I was driving my boss car without proper insurance. When it isnt your day , it just isnt your day. Somehow some police patrol car that patrolling the street RANDOMLY stop my vehicle to check my details. Unfortunately even though I am legally permitted to be in this country I was driving without proper insurance cover so I have to sit behind a police car while they take down my details and stuff, mind you I was sitting in BMW  police car so I dont really mind. Actually my boss wanted to include me in the insurance to drive the car for that day but it cost £ 2,500 just to cover me for one freaking day. Any sane man would know thats not the sane things to do , I mean even the operator on the line giggles when she saw the figure.

Anyway they towed my boss car away and weeks later I received a letter from the Magistrate of Manchester asking me to attend a court hearing  for that driving offence. I was devastated at that time because according to the police officer there will be no further action taken against me but just tow away the vehicle I was driving. All the time I been a very obedient and nice citizen in Malaysia and just a few months in the UK I was already been summon to court, ahha something must not be right here. Since driving without proper insurance is such a norm over here, I can see ten of thousand or even hundred of thousand of this cases happening in UK every year so I was given an option to plead guilty by writing without needing to attend the court.

In order to avoid all the hassle and harsher penalty I plead guilty by writing and was fine a considerable amount of money for such a minor offence . They had my driving license for a couple of months apparently some guy forget to post it back to me and some guy accidentally archive my license. So since the day I was stopped by the police officer which is on the 23rd December 09 I havent been driving simply because it is just not worth it.I mean cars are cheap here, I can easily get a second hand car for less than £500 but the insurance simply too blardy expensive. I do miss the feeling of driving but I guess it just have to wait till I am back in Msia.

My day as Project Alpha Blog Contest Grand Winner

Posted on October 25th, 2009 in Travel by SirSimplySaw

Today is a very exciting day for me as the Grand Winner of Project Alpha Blog Contest , Adidas Action 3 is sending me for a date with Jojo Struys to Chelsea, UK to watch an English Premier League match and that is happening today. I am very thankful to Nuffnang, Adidas Action 3 and Jojo Struys for making this such a meaningful event for me. As a supporter of Chelsea FC for nearly 10 years this is once in a lifetime opportunity for me to watch them play life at Chelsea.Jojo and I are about to watch the match Chelsea FC vs Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge.

The weather today is gloomy at first but later when the match is about to start it all well and sunny, a very good day for an exciting football match. Jojo and I started our journey around mid noon as the match starts at  1730.

Soon after that , the match started. The atmosphere at Matthew Harding stand is electrifying, the amount of noise made by the home supporter is so loud that you literally hear the stand shaking. Mind you I do contribute a lil bit to this voicequake, for those that weak hearted you will definately find the noise a lil too much for your heat to take. Chelsea started well , manage to create a few chances in the first half and forced Blackburn Rovers to conceed an own goal in the first half. Peter Cech was rather having a stroll in the first half as nothing much he needs to do. So the first half score was 1-0 to Chelsea.

Chelsea were dominating in the second half and when the clock strike 54 mins , Chelsea went berserk. Chelsea manage to score 4 goals in around 15 mins time frame through Lampard 2, Drogba and a very beautiful goal by Essien. The crowds went wild during that period, basically all of us were on our feet screaming and cheering during that frenzy. Throughout this period the amount of noise increase drastically, is like the whole world is cheering for Chelsea sharing the joy with us thats inside the stadium at that time.It was one hell of an experience, soon after that Blackburn tried to score some consolation goal but John Terry denied them a goal by clearing in on the line. I do apologize as I was too mesmerize by the game and the goals I hardly took any picture during the game as I don’t want to miss any moment of it.

In the end it was 5-0 to Chelsea, thats one match definately worth watching. The whole experience is so meaningful. All of us had a good time including my babies and Jojo of course, all  those Chelsea supporter inside Stamford Bridge and those around the world I am sure they had a good time as well. Soon after that we make our ways leaving Stamford Bridge with unforgettable memories.

There is no Uni like Thailand Uni !

Posted on October 17th, 2009 in Travel by SirSimplySaw

Ok I know I posted something earlier on but when I stumble upon this in utube and I know I must share this with you guys. My first time out of the country was to Thailand when I was 18,no no is not to lose my virginity or something like that but to attend a Scout Camp or Asian Pacific Jamboree to be exact. I know Thailand is just across the border but it still what excite me going out of the country for the first time.

The camp was great,I mean it was awesome and memorable, the people are very nice and friendly but whats better is after the camp before going back to Penang. As we have like nearly a day before our flights back to Pg from Bangkok me and some of my scouts mates went sight seeing Bangkok by ourselves and yes all of us are over 18 at that time but no hanky panky as we are scouts.

As we were walking around in those high class mall, we saw plenty of young girls of around 20s wearing some sort of uniform as most of us never really been to Thailand before we were so curious. I mean what kind of uniform is that ? It doesnt look like school uniform and I dont think they are such a cool company hiring such a huge amount of cute young girls to work for them. The uniform was quite skimpy though, is like very tight black mini skirt and very tight white button shirt. Curiosity kills the cat but hey we are not cats, so we sort of approached a few young girls in uniform and asking them what uniform they are wearing.

OMG their answer blew me away, it was their university uniform and yes all those girl who study in universities in Thailand wear those kind of uniforms to class. I mean is not as kinky as those american outfit but it is definetely sexy. We also manage to get more information that most of the girl go for size like XXS or XXXS to make themselves look hotter, oh my how could I not agree with that. I am not sure do they still wear those kind of uniforms nowadays as it was few years ago, alot of things happened in Thailand for the past few years. Anyway if the girls in my country wear this kind of uniforms to univesity I will definately waste 5 years or so in uni even though I don’t want to. Which bloke could resist the chance being surrounded by hot and sexy looking girls in skimpy outfit. To those of you who went Thailand to find other girl or those never been to Thailand, this clips says it all…..

oh yea I think we sort of walk through Patpong eventhough I am not very sure it is Patpong or some other place as we were just walking around without any direction. Paul, Mike,Azim and Bob does those clip remind you of anything ? Oh my I miss that 16 years old girl back then that we met at the school we stay in before we proceed to the campsite. She is so so hot !!! If just if I have more guts back then …Sigh

We wont see them but we will miss them

Most of the world qualifying groups matches for World Cup 2010 end yesterday except for Africa continent while the rest are just play-off to determine who will proceed to South Africa 2010 with 50 -50 chance of making it. Some countries are left devastated for not being able to make it even to play-off. Well from what it seems at the current moment, South Africa 10 definately will bring thrill and plenty of excitement to all of us but too bad I am going to miss my kaki bola, no more late outings at Pelita,Kayu or the global brand McD that serves 24hours at least for 2010 World Cup.

Ahha how I miss those moments during Euro 2008, to me the best time must be in McD Sg.Dua with all the free flow of drinks and the best thing is we get free french fries voucher whenever a team score. Lets see who was my kaki bola that time, well we got the usual gang of Bu, Winson, Jim, See Khoon,Ping and then we got Choo Hoe, Wee Ming,Kim Chuan,Seng Kee and etc. Can’t really recall who else is there ,mind to add in the name ah for me ah ? Is a great campaign even there are some people who lose something and some people who win something, I am sure you guys know what is that something !!!

Spain without a doubt a well deserved champion even though it  is such a waste whenEngland doesnt participate in Euro 08. Lets talk about WC 10 instead, some of the notable teams that we definately wont see in South Africa are Czech Republic, sigh I sort of like Czech Republic since Pavel Kuka era. I mean a team with Petr Cech,Thomas Rosicky,Jarosla Plasil and Milan Baros just to name a few is an exciting team.  Some other teams are Sweden,Croatia and Turkey. Sweden team always full of young and hot hunks with golden hair, there are the plus point to get girls involve with football while Croatia manage to secure 3rd place finish in their first WC appearance in France 98 and since then their football been very entertaining. Turkey are very unpredictable teams, even they might not be a very strong team but they always entertain and most of the time they are the real dark horse in all the competition they participate.

While in Asia, I will miss China, Iran and of course Malaysia, I am still very confident that I will see it with my own eyes that Malaysia will make it to the WC  before I die even we are so far behind in the world rankings. Malaysia Boleh !!! Iran Ali Daei once is the world most profilic striker in the world, he scored 109 goals in 149 international matches. His ratio scoring rate exceed any striker that you could think of but most if not all of his goals are against a much weaker team. China with population of 1.2 billions people will be WC champion in near future but for WC10 you wont see them there but dont worry they will be busy producing more babies behind the scene to go even further.

Nothing much to talk about North,Central America and Carribean. Hmmmm I guess I will miss Jamaica but I dont understand why with their strike force lead by Marlon King and Ricardo Fueller they still cant make it to WC10.  Regarding Oceania since Australia joined AFC I guess they will be only represented by New Zealand in the play-off,I will rather have a 5th team from Asia in WC. While South America continent I will miss Ecuador and Colombia, these 2 countries always been flamboyant and do add the little spice into WC but sayonara is all left to say to them.

I will discuss on teams that qualified for WC 10 once all the play-off finish on 18th November 09 and also my humble predictions and thoughts on South Africa World Cup 2010.
